The Applications team supports, maintains and develops our estate of core business applications to enable Friends of the Earth’s people and campaigns to thrive. Experts in Application support, IT Infrastructure and technology solutions work together using an ITIL-based service desk; we’re a friendly, fast-paced and engaged department that supports 180 staff and volunteers in our London and regional offices - and remote workers around England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
We’re looking for a highly motivated Applications Specialist who will be responsible for the day-to-day support of our core business applications, proactively pursue business process improvements, and participate in – and in some cases lead - projects. There is a strong focus on customer service and responsiveness to ensure we deliver on the demanding and rapidly changing needs of a dynamic and successful organisation. This will be achieved by working closely with key customer stakeholders across the business. Additionally, you will work side-by-side with our technology colleagues in identifying and implementing improvements and changes.
In terms of technology, you’ll be well-versed in the latest Microsoft technologies, and understand the nuances of cloud computing, especially the Azure Cloud, which we use to host our server estate. You will also be comfortable with quickly learning new technologies and understanding how they interface with each other. You’ll be adept at communicating complex issues to different audiences and bringing both the team and stakeholders with you in resolving issues, exceeding expectations, and ultimately improving the service we offer.
- Applications and system support experience, including Office 365 and Azure
- Experience of business process improvement
- Proven experience of delivery, coordinating and participating in technology projects
- Account management experience
- Attention to detail and analysis skills
- Experience supporting financial systems, ideally including Sun Accounts
- Software procurement and selection
- Data analysis using tools such as PowerBi and SQL Server
- Education and Training Delivery
This role is expected to collaborate closely with our technology team who are primarily London-based, and so we would expect to have an induction period of up to 6 weeks in London for those based elsewhere, with accommodation, travel and subsistence paid for.
