We process personal data relating to job applicants as part of our recruitment process and are committed to being transparent about how we collect and use that data. Please see our policy for further information.
Equal Opportunities Statement
Our staff body is currently under-representative of People of Colour, LGBTQIA+ people and people with long term conditions or impairments. We are committed to eroding these historic barriers, so as to create a movement in which people from all walks of life see themselves. So we particularly encourage you to apply if you are suitably qualified for what is required for the role and belong to one of these groups or sit at multiple intersections of disadvantage. We are committed to the Disability Confident standard and will guarantee an interview to any candidates who declare a disability and who meet the essential criteria for the role.
Access to information
At Friends of the Earth we use an anonymised application system. This means only the recruitment team will have full access to your application form during the long and shortlisting process.
The shortlisting panel will have access to an anonymised version of your application form for the shortlisting process. Personal details and disability information will only be available to them after the shortlisting has been completed.
Diversity information is for monitoring purposes only (last section of the application form), and is not available to our staff on an individual basis, the information can only be accessed within summarised reports.
Data Protection
In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations 2018, I agree that Friends of the Earth may hold and use the personal information that I share in line with my application to keep me up-to-date with future opportunities for a period of 6 months. In submitting this application Friends of the Earth may also collect the personal data it contains and use that data for statistical and/or diversity purposes.
Disability Confident Committed
We are proud to be part of the Disability Confident Scheme.
Friends of the Earth believes that people with impairments or conditions are disabled by the way society is organised and consequently disabled people face unfair barriers that others do not.
We recognise that in the workplace as well as more widely, the physical environment, rules and policies (formal and informal) and attitudes of others can unfairly affect all disabled people with impairments and conditions.
The Equality Act 2010 definition of being disabled is:
*Long term means the impairment must last more than 12 months and if a fluctuating condition, one which is expected to continue for more than 12 months.
Please note if successful with your application we will ask you at the offer stage if there are any work related adjustments which would help you to take up the role, you do not need to disclose any work related adjustments at this stage.
All vacancies at Friends of the Earth are open to job share. If you are interested in applying for this role as a job share please indicate below the days and hours you are available to work. We review each role individually.
References
As part of our pre-employment checks you will be required to provide at least two references, one must be your current or most recent employer. The references must cover the past two years and may therefore require more than two referees to fully cover the two year period.
Where candidates do not have the work experience to meet this requirement, we may seek a character reference. This could be from a course tutor, or someone who has known you professionally.
Please note we do not require referee details at this stage of the process.
Use of Artificial Intelligence
We acknowledge that Artificial Intelligence technology is part of our lives and widely used. However we strongly advise against candidates using Artificial Intelligence during any stage of the recruitment process as we would like to hear about your skills and experience, in your own words.
If it is suspected that a candidate has used Artificial Intelligence during the application process Friends of the Earth will reject the application.
Please note we do not include the use of Grammarly or other software to support with reasonable adjustments to be use of Artificial Intelligence and would like to stress your application would not be discounted because of using these tools.
